Privacy Preservation Strategy in Time-Sensitive LBSs

Weihao Li, Ben Niu, Hui Li · 2017

The popularity of Location-Based Services (LBSs) has resulted in varieties of applications with more conveniences in our daily life. However, since mobile users need to submit some sensitive information to the untrusted LBS servers, they may lose their privacy while they are enjoying the provided social activities. In this paper, we first point out and define the Time-Sensitive Side Information (TSSI) in LBSs. Then we design two metrics to measure mobile user's privacy (termed privacy metric) and quantify the service quality (called service quality metric) of the LBS, respectively. The privacy metric aims at measuring the location privacy and query privacy, simultaneously. The service quality metric tries to take the loss of service into account and quantify the service quality while mobile users are using the LBSs. Followed, based on the effect of TSSI, we develop analytical framework providing privacy-preserving strategy for mobile users. Finally, thorough analysis and evaluation results show the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed strategy.
