Design a Secure Framework for Cloud-Based Medical Image Storage

Mbarek Marwan, Ali Kartit, Hassan Ouahmane · 2017

Actually, vast amounts of medical imaging data are created each year because healthcare professionals rely heavily on these digital records. Currently, healthcare industry still uses local data centers to store and manage patients' data. This concept causes a dramatic increase in operating expenses. To address this issue, medical providers are interested in implementing the cloud storage system. Indeed, the latter is meant to offer cost-efficient resources as a service through the Internet. Besides, clients are charged only based on cloud services utilization. Unfortunately, security and privacy are the main challenges for this new paradigm. This paper seeks to provide a deeper insight into existing implementations of cloud storage in the healthcare domain. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the current status of the cloud storage with security requirements. Accordingly, we design a secure framework to save medical image in a secure manner. To achieve this objective, segmentation and watermarking mechanisms are used to meet privacy requirements. In addition, the proposal uses multi-cloud environment as a storage system for attaining high security and performance.
