A spatial decision support system for vehicle routing

This paper describes the design, development, and implementation of a computer aided system for planning efficient network maintenance routes. The system has been used to design snow and ice control routes for the Indiana Department of Transportation with documented cost savings on the order of $10-million while improving the overall level of service to the network.
