RFID technology and new identification standards have been presented as the cornerstone of this system. In this article, we show how the “Internet of Things” can be implemented using existing identification standards and technology. Handling product assemblies is one example of this, for which this paper presents an agent-centric solution. An industrial track-and-trace pilot project provides the necessary proof-of-concept for the technical solutions.
