The use of pseudocode in teaching algorithmic problem solving and program design has proven a difficult barrier for many CS1 students. The evidence of several, independent studies suggests that many students have great difficulty in using it to develop a new algorithm, and when they do, they often produce logical inconsistencies in pseudocode, causing significant confusion at the point where they must produce concrete implementations of the parts.
