An exploratory work in 3D graphics for UCWaves using 3D Java is presented in this thesis report.Principles of Java 3D are successfully adopted to the stand alone version of the software UCWaves to read, parse and convert the contents of 3D B EM input file into Java 3D representation and finally display the visual object thus constructed.A custom loader is developed in five layers and each layer is implemented in a separate class. Each class handles different aspects of conversion of contents of the input file into Java 3D representation.Tokenizer layer set rules for parsing the contents of the file; object layer reads, parses the contents and stores them in appropriate variables; scene layer makes a scene graph containing the visual object out of the contents of the input file; file layer is the actual loader class and interacts with the next layer, the application layer. All the five layers interact with each other and the visual object is rendered onto the computer screen. Some examples of 3D input files tested are discussed.Changes to main menu structure, making it more organized for user interaction is also implemented.New menu structure is along the lines of commercial FEM / CAD software.UCWaves has emerged as much more powerful tool after the completion of this thesis.
