Recently grid computing is drawing much attention in the field of bioinformatics. Here, I will describe our expectations of grid computing, especially with regard to protein structure prediction. There are many biological databases, e. g., those of DNA, protein sequences and tertiary coordinates. We need to keep a large number of such databases in-house and constantly update them in order to handle them interactively using own scripts and get significant results. Grid computing may lower the cost of maintaining such a system. Furthermore we will be able to make rapid progress in protein structure prediction with the computational power provided by grid computing.
