An energy efficient clustering algorithm for Wireless Sensor devices in Internet of Things

Mohammad Fouladlou, Ahmad Khademzadeh · 2017

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new network paradigm that allows the virtual presence of physical objects in our life. The main idea of IoT is origin from equipping daily life objects with embedded devices. Meanwhile, due to the low cost and high availability of sensor devices, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have a great role in overspreading of IoT. This paper presents a new routing algorithm in order to improve the energy efficiency of WSN devices in IoT. The well-known genetic algorithm is employed for clustering sensor devices for the sake of efficient routing and prolonging network lifetime. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed routing algorithm has a better performance in comparison with IEEE 802.15.4 protocol in terms of end-to-end delay, energy consumption, bit error rate, and throughput.
