Preparing for Change in Your Design

This chapter offers some thoughts on “how to lay the foundations for a good content delivery networks (CDN) implementation”. It discusses how to solve the CDN design problem. When developing the design models, focus on all the objectives at all times. Every diagram should be “complete” and not just show isolated “subcomponents”. This is key to maintaining purpose. Once the basic worldview model of the system is completed, then one has to add schematic overlays showing workflows. Scenario plan the workflows thinking “up and down the entire network stack and storage pyramid” at every stage both mid-process and inter-process. Immediate value can be created when one can deliver clients what they need in a simple form, but in a way that can be put into service quickly. Long-term value can be created when that system is agile and can evolve with the clients' requirements and the end users demands.
