APPLICATIONS OF CELLULAR AUTOMATA IN COMPLEX SYSTEM STUDY

Abstract. In recent years, cellular automata have been used widely to study complex systems, such as biological systems, traffic systems, economic systems, environmental systems, engineering systems, social systems, industrial systems, and a lot of remarkable results have been gained. Due to its underlying prop-erties, cellular automata approach has become a new promising method for studying complex systems. First, this paper analyzes the relationship between cellular automata and complex systems based on their own characteristics. Then, some applications of cellular automata in complex systems ’ modeling, analyzing and controlling are discussed. Finally, some suggestions for future development of cellular automata approach in studying complex systems are given. Key Words. cellular Automata, complex system. 1.
