ng of the resource itself. Once it is determined what resource is causing the system to perform poorly, we must determine how to adjust the parameter in order to increase performance. This has to be done quickly and efficiently while still maintaining a stable system. In order to properly determine the source of a resource allocation problem, the diagnosis algorithm must have expert knowledge about how each resource affects database performance and how all of the resources are inter-related. Resource allocation is a delicate balance of determining how much of each resource is needed. Since database resources are closely inter-related, it is possible that what may look like the offending resource is actually caused by another resource that is poorly configured. It may also be true that once one resource is changed, the performance decreases even more because other closely related resources were not changed.
