Negative Results on Learning Dependencies with Queries.

Data dependencies play an important role in the design of relational databases. In particular, functional and multivalued dependencies are useful to obtain relation schemes that satisfy the fourth normal form. We study the learnability of the class FMVD of sets of functional and multivalued dependencies within the exact model of learning via queries, and prove that neither equivalence queries alone nor membership queries alone suce to learn the class.
