Purely finitely generated Abelian groups

In this note a new structural description of purely finitely generated abelian groups is presented.This criterion enables us to show that the class of purely finitely generated groups is closed under pure subgroups and that this class is contained in the class of all factor-splitting torsionfree abelian groups.As an application a theorem concerning the splitting of pure subgroups is generalized.
