To determine if digital cervicography (DC) can be used for quality control of visualization with acetic acid (VIA) in the detection of cervical dysplasia. Two physicians performed VIA on 160 women in mobile clinics in the Peruvian Amazon. DC was then performed using an iPhone attached a hand-held colposcope (Gynocular TM Gynius, Stockholm, Sweden) on 94 women- 77 who were deemed to be VIA negative and 17 who were VIA positive. Women with probable high-grade lesions as determined by DC had cervical biopsies. Blinded DC images were then sent to 2 expert colposcopists (ECs) for evaluation. The 2 ECs identified all 17 women (100%) who were deemed VIA positive. Both ECs also identified 5 additional digital cervicographs that were VIA negative during screening that appear to show cervical dysplasia. However, at least one of the two ECs determined that 21 images were not fully evaluable.
