Community Information Centres (CICS)-Key to Rural Development: Experience from North East India

Govt.of India has launched a project to established community information centres (CICS) in all 487 blocks of North-eastern states of India. The objectives and scope of the project are described. Different services rendered by CIC is enumerated. The experience of the pilot project has been very encouraging. The CICs constitute a unique opportunity for the North-eastern India to avail of cutting-edge information technology-based services to give a fillip to the development of the region.
