Summary Trace integration, that is also called relative wave impedance, is a very useful seismic attribute for reservoir description. Previous researchers have derived the theoretical formula, however, they lack in further theoretical interpretation and analysis. This paper, based on a case of channel sand body in Dong 7 well are analyzed the practical waveform characteristics of thin channel sand body firstly. And then we carried out forward modeling on the through-well sand body, studied the waveform and wedge characteristics of the single sand body, and pointed out the advantages of trace integration in the single sand body description. Also, this paper compared trace integration and conventional attributes, and pointed out the advantages of trace integration over the conventional attributes and 90° phase shift attribute. Finally, we compared and analyzed the tuning thickness method with trace integration in calculating the thin-layer thickness theoretically, checked it out with the actual data, and verified the better effect of the sand body predicted by trace integration.
