To make Mutation Testing practical to use, it is needed to be optimized. This optimization can be pointed toward any part of the mutation testing processes. This research suggests the optimization in the mutation operator implementation. There are different ways of implementing a mutation testing operator. This research shows an alternative way of using Regular Expression (Regex) to implement a mutation testing operator. Regular Expression was chosen because it was easy to implement and could be run (might be faster) in a simple string representation of a source code. An experiment has been performed with six selected mutation testing operator and has been tested with two source code programs with its test cases. The result shows that this approach was feasible to implement, regex could represent mutation operator traits in creating a mutant, it is also discussed other caveats in implementing regex as mutation testing operator.
