Course Objectives/Description: The main objective of the Jazz Ensemble is to enable students to learn jazz through performance.Selected pieces by the jazz masters and standards of the jazz idiom constitute the majority of performance material, but student arrangements are also a vital component to rehearsals and concerts.All chosen material is varied in style, tempo, and difficulty while keeping in mind the educational needs of the ensemble.The Jazz Ensemble will provide students an opportunity to play in a traditional big band and learn small group and improvisation skills.Registration: Unless you have a specific conflict that you have cleared with the director, you must be registered for this course to participate.You must also be registered to be eligible for a PAG.Evaluation: Each student will be evaluated on preparedness, improvement and attendance.The following grade descriptions provide more detailed information.
