ABSTRACT Architectures of internet of things help in understanding the system constraints for designing, engineering, building and testing the actual system. We have identified two architectures of internet of things, which are reported in the literature: Cloud-centric three-layered architecture and Autonomic oriented five-layered architecture. Three layered architecture is comparatively cheap simple and fast, whereas five layered architecture provides better information security and self-manageability in dynamic business environment where uncertainties are high. We argue that the choice of IoT architecture is influenced by the strategy type of organizations. Three-layered architecture of IoT is most suitable for defender type of organizations whereas five-layered architecture is most suited to prospector and innovator (that have high business uncertainty and information security requirement) types of organizations.
