Multi-Loop Networked Control Systems over a Shared Communication Channel
Domagoj Tolić, Sandra Hirche · 2017
This chapter considers multiple feedback loops being closed over a shared communication channel. It introduces different medium access control policies, which in contrast to standard approaches, explicitly takes the state of the individual networked control systems (NCS) loops into account and analyzes the overall behavior of the multi-loop control system under these policies. The individual control loops consist of potentially heterogeneous linear time-invariant plants with stochastic disturbances. The channel capacity is limited in terms of the transmission slots at a particular instant of time. The chapter presents the terminology and essential background used throughout the chapter. It analyses the basic problem setting and the scheduling problem in multi-loop NCSs. The chapter proposes different event-based scheduling mechanisms. The chapter explains a decentralized implementation considering state-of-the-art communication protocols. It shiows that simulation results comparing the performance of the proposed scheduling approaches to others.
