Digital Forensics Education
Christopher J. Hargreaves · 2017
This chapter discusses a newer area of forensic science education, digital forensics. It then discusses how different aspects of digital forensics map out the quality assurance agency (QAA) for higher education degree descriptors offered by different levels of qualifications. While traditional forensic science and digital forensics differ in some aspects, they also share a common grounding in law, crime scenes, evidence and the scientific method. There is, therefore, much to be gained from collaboration in both education and research, and sharing of resources (e.g. modules on courses) is likely to be mutually beneficial. The chapter explains a selection of challenges in the teaching of digital forensics. Practical exercises and examples are an important part of a digital forensics course. The chapter explains some of the requirements for building a digital forensics teaching laboratory.
