Simplified approach for spectrum hole assignment using energy based detector approach

Harshali Patil, Seema Purohit · 2016

Resource optimization becomes mandatory in radio spectrum because of limited resources. The effective utilization of resources is the need of wireless era. Cognitive radio is a technology which enables opportunistic access to radio spectrum and has ability to analyze and learn about the environment conditions. Most of the radio spectrum is underutilized. Cognitive radio has the ability to sense the spectrum and identify vacant band i.e. a spectrum hole. In this paper, the presented model senses the vacant bands and without interfering with the licensed users the unlicensed (secondary) users can utilize the radio environment. The selection of vacant band/ unutilized band is done optimally by using game theory. The model designed will reduce the time in vacant band selection and will not cause interference with the licensed (primary) users. MATLAB software is used for modelling the radio environment.
