“Software-radio is an emerging technology, which seeks to build flexible radio systems, multi-service, multi-band, multi-standard, reconfigurable, and reprogrammable by software.” This definition, borrowed from [1], [2] perfectly describes the key concept behind the software-defined radio (SDR) design paradigm. This permits most of the components that are traditionally designed as an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) to be replaced with signal processing algorithms running in software. Numerous wireless communication systems have benefited from the advent of SDR, and research continues to be done to fully develop the concept and its reach; Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are no exception.
