NON-UNIFORM PROBABILISTIC KEY MANAGEMENT SCHEMES FOR SECURE DATA ACQUISITION IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Data acquisition security is an important concern in wireless sensor networks (WSN).Due to energy and memory constraints, tradition authentication mechanisms cannot be employed in WSN.We present a novel key distribution mechanism permitting secure data acquisition and inter-node communication. Our solution is based on key predistribution under non-uniform distribution. We show that by effectively varying the key distribution probabilities, different levels of security can be established. This thesis also proposes the idea of a multi-dimensional hypothetical key space where the locations of keys vary according to the desired security level. As opposed to previous solutions, which utilize the physical location of the nodes for key distribution, the key space proposed in this thesis is independent of the actual physical location of the node.We have shown through analysis and simulations that our scheme performs better than the earlier proposed schemes, both in terms of security and communication overheads.
