Processing RDF Triplestores in Front-End Applications Based on Context-Dependent Rules

Neli P. Zlatareva · 2016

Current RDF-based languages for the Semantic Web, such as OWL and SWRL, are not intended to work with uncertain or inconsistent descriptions. This limitation does not undermine their enormous power when it comes to navigating the web to collect information in response to SPARQL queries. But the web being an "open world" inevitably contains contradictions and not always the relevant information can be found, even if it is present on the web. To address complex descriptive queries requiring an advice rather than information, we need more flexible notations and reasoning capabilities especially on the application site. In this paper, we discuss how a reasoning framework based on context-dependent rules can be adapted to process RDF triples in recommender-type front-end applications.
