Developing Windows applications for Japan
Frank Murch, Eugene Kozik · International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology · 1995
The advent of Microsoft Windows has opened up the Japanese market to software applications developed by non–Japanese vendors. This paper describes what to look for, what tools to use and how to deal with software development for export to Japan. Success in the Japanese market requires: the use of a huge character set called Shift JIS; the use of a resource file scheme that allows the extraction of the text strings and accelerators into a single file; and the use of front end processor (FEPs).
