Divide & Conquer: genuine characterization of light states by click detectors

We experimentally demonstrate an on-chip photon-counting device based on a divide-and-conquer technique exploiting linear optics and standard on-off detectors. Our scheme is based on click-counting statistics instead of photon-counting statistics.
