Development of a data base to gait analysis and data organization in ASBGo Smart Walker

Inês Rosendo Carvalho e Silva Caetano, Joana Alves, Ricardo Varzim, Cristina P. Santos · 2017

The use of the Adaptive System Behavior Group Smart Walker in rehabilitation of ataxic patients was validated in the last years achieving very promising results. The spectrum of application of this device is very broad, ranging from stroke patients, providing faster recoveries, to patients with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, who tend to be immobilized quickly. This assistance device also promotes fast recover of traumatic injuries or post-surgery, in order to re-establish motor functionality. Previous works have resulted in a state machine algorithm that supplies raw spatiotemporal data from which gait spatiotemporal parameters are extracted[1]. This work presents the use of this data to build a database (DB) capable of analyzing the patient's gait and exposing the collected information through a user-friendly interface. This tool was developed in collaboration with Hospital de Braga (HB), whose partnership has been essential to identify the real needs in a physiotherapy environment.
