This chapter proposes a “store-recover-forward” approach for effective video live streaming over wireless multihop networks. The “store-recover-forward” approach allows cooperative recovery that utilizes peer-initiated network coding (NC) over a subset of received source packets. It introduces the wireless cooperative live streaming network. The chapter formulates the problems in study and analyzes their hardness. The chapter describes distributed algorithm Video Broadcasting with Cooperative Recovery (VBCR) in detail. Each node in VBCR independently determines the NC packets to code and which video packets to forward, given a certain target residual loss rate at its neighboring nodes. VBCR is fully distributed, with decisions based on only neighbor information and hence is scalable to a large group. The chapter presents illustrative simulation results. The simulation results show that VBCR with NC-based cooperative recovery at intermediate nodes significantly outperforms other schemes in that VBCR uses reasonably low network traffic to achieve a low residual loss rate.
