Web Impact of Indian Library Associations

In the development of library and information science education and services, the associations have been playing a major role since before the independence. In the present society of web 2.0, it has become necessary for the associations to have strong and interactive websites to reach its members as well as beneficiaries. After about 100 years of the existence of library associations in India, it is time to examine their web presence and visibility to estimate their efforts to reach the members through web media. Quantitative measurement of websites, i.e. Webometrics, follows the scientometrics laws to evaluate the performance of websites in terms of their presence in web space, visibility in web domain, link count, research output, popularity, etc. The present study, adopted the methodology of Ranking Web of Cybermetrics Lab with some modification. The search engines, SEO tools, personal crawler have been employed for collection of data. The collected data are manipulated with free statistical software to derive the result. It shows the impact of a particular website in respect to others in a group; the web performance of the individual association in relation to the others and suggests the associations to optimize their websites to reach more audience and develop web relationship for better interest.
