Metadata and Power Searches

Windows 10 searches use an index of filenames, properties, and file contents to make searches quick and nimble. They also look only at files in the search index because that's much faster than slogging through the entire file system to look at every file in every folder. The information about files that's in the index comes from each file's properties. Those properties are sometimes referred to as metadata because they're different from the file's content. Getting the most from Windows 10's searches includes knowing how to tweak its settings to work in ways that support the kinds of things user do. User can tweak some aspects of indexed searches through the Folder and Search Options dialog box. To get the best performance and value from the search index, make sure it includes all the files users regularly use in their work.
