This paper presents the results of extensive testing both in the static mode and the dynamic mode of two of the current MOPS compliant receivers and the Gamma navigator. The paper will present a detailed comparison of two of the WAAS MOPS implementations. The paper will identify contributions to the error due to signal in space and position sensor/navigator. The paper examines the results of tests to determine the effects of solution latency and time constants to the Navigation System Error (NSE). The results of actual flight tests on precision approaches will be used to examine the NSE. A frequency analysis was conducted on the Signal in Space (SIS) error and the Navigation System Error. This frequency analysis is presented in terms of the effects that the error has on a precision approach in the Final Approach Segment. The paper will also address issues of GPS navigation such as WAAS availability and integrity in an airborne application. The WAAS signal in space used during the tests reported in this paper was provided by both the National Satellite Test Bed (NSTB) and Raytheon. Therefore, a look at this new Raytheon test signal’s properties will be provided as a part of this paper. The paper represents the partial results of work being conducted by the FAA and the University of Oklahoma in the application of WAAS and LAAS to precision approach and landing techniques.
