How Crowdsourcing Can Be Applied To Co-Create Political Strategies With And For Citizens

The emerging digital technologies provide organizations with new opportunities to co-create innovations with their stakeholder, by systematically tapping into external sources of knowledge, creativity, and experience. As digital technologies are also increasingly pervasive in the public sector, virtual citizen co-creation systems also constitute an important but rather unexplored research area. This is especially relevant since many examples in the public sector underline the need for more openness in governmental decision making. Consequently, this research effort aims at exploring how and with which output a crowdsourcing approach may be applied to openly co-develop political strategies in a public sector setting. To tackle the research question we conducted a 22-months research project together with the state chancellery of North Rheine Westphalia.
