A novel asynchronous Mc-Cdma multiuser detector with modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (MPSO)

Ramandeep Kaur, Mamta Arora · 2016

In this paper, a novel modified Particle Swarm optimization (mPSO) technique is proposed for multiuser detection (MUD) which is performed for multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) communication systems. In MC-CDMA systems the users have their own spreading codes. The users also share same frequency band simultaneously which allows the system to transmit data at higher rate but the problem of multiple access interference (MAI) arises. Several MUD techniques are used to mitigate MAI and increase the system capacity. The performance of optimum multiuser detector has been examined in this paper. The optimum multiuser detector is complex due to the amount of calculations it performs in one bit period. The mPSO technique based on Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) has been used to reduce the complexity of the optimum multiuser detector. This technique also optimises the bit error rate of the system by eliminating MAI. The proposed scheme is also compared with other optimization techniques such as genetic algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The numerical results show that mPSO technique reduces the complexity manifold as compared to GA and PSO.
