The challenge of IT

As a physicist who now works as a systems administrator, I read with interest Paul McNally's article about careers in the IT industry (June p63) and was pleased to see him bring the profession of the systems administrator to the attention of physicists. After all, many great computer scientists began life as physicists, a fact that is perhaps better known among computer scientists than physicists.
