Adaptive array algorithm performance: Case studies in different environments

Geoffrey W. K. Colman, Tricia J. Willink · 2004

Improvements in communications performance achievable by using adaptive array processors at mobile receivers are demonstrated using measured channel data. Performance of the least mean squares (LMS) and direct matrix inversion (DMI) algorithms is compared in rural, suburban, and urban environments. The ability of the algorithms to track channel changes in real environments is investigated by linking the algorithms' local performance with specific channel characteristics. It is seen that the LMS algorithm's performance varies widely with the environment, while the DMI algorithm has very consistent performance.
