Prior research demonstrates environmental reservoirs may play a role in the transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria within a hospital. Using video monitoring, we propose a technique based on graph Laplacian spectral analysis to classify human activities around sinks. The extracted feature-vectors are applied to a support vector machine to characterize different events in each video. Results are promising, demonstrating the potential of graph Laplacian spectral decomposition for the vision-based analysis of human activity. The activities mined from the videos in correlation with localized statistics of infections could lead to an understanding of the link between infection transmission and healthcare activities.
