Dating in Archaeology: A Guide to Scientific Techniques

J G Wilson · Physics Bulletin · 1977

Stuart Fleming London: J M Dent 1977 pp 212 price £8.95 This accomplished book, for which readers with wide-ranging interests must be grateful to Dr Fleming, may well be the last single volume in which dating techniques for all periods can still be successfully treated in critical detail, because it is matters of detailed application, and crosslinkages between the findings of various techniques, that most manifest confidence in these rapidly growing areas of scientific application. These features are already notable and will certainly become more so for topics spanning the last ten thousand years or so: for the remoter past the purposes, the technology and the assumptions underlying individual applications are almost all different.
