Future network - A viewpoint from ITU-T

Recently, there have been continuous efforts and advances in progress in the field of research and development of the Future Networks (FNs) technologies, such as network virtualization and software-defined network (SDN), information centric networking (ICN), cloud networking, autonomic management, and open connectivity. In late 2009 ITU-T started working on the FNs standardization. In their Recommendations based on their initial results that lay down the major guidelines for further in-depth work. In this paper we present the background and the context of the ITU-T FNs' standardization and plans for the future work.
