A profile of the defrauder - a modern Moriarty?
Fanie Joubert · Acta criminologica · 1994
In a publication by Felson (1994:4) on crime and everyday life, the author informs the reader of fallacies about crime. The so-called ingenuity fallacy reflects the general view that criminals are brilliant and daring. An example of such ingenuity is the case of Professor Moriarty - a character in the Arthur Conan Doyle series on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes - who is descriptionbed as an evil and brilliant daredevil, whom Holmes can catch only after an epic struggle.
