On Deductive Query Evaluation in the DedGin* System.
Alexandre Lefebvre, Laurent Vieille · 1989
This paper reports on an effort to produce a deductive database system integrated in a Prolog environment and makes several contributions to the field of deductive query processing: 1) the combination of a backward chaining computational model (QSQ) and of set-oriented execution model; 2) the representation of the evaluation programs by means of Cyclic Query Execution Graphs; 3) the incorporation of several optimization techniques in a unique compiler; 4) the integration of recursion into the database query processor; 5) the development of a so-called open architecture for the integration of Prolog and of the database subsystem. In addition, we describe the DedGin* prototype that has been implemented along these principles.
