Recent news reports that elderly households will increase to 35%, so it is important to measure physical activity in such households to ensure their health and security. This is difficult to do while protecting privacy, however. We measured human activity using an accelerometer placed at the waist to distinguish walking, running, stair climbing, and elevator use, comparing movement between young and old.
