The establishment of computer aided diagnosis, CAD has begun in the early 1980s to assist doctors and sonographer in decision making. Many researchers predict that CAD could be applied as a primary diagnosis for medical practitioners. Ironically, literature on CAD system for kidney image analysis is insufficient. This conceptual paper will outline literature review and crucial steps on the development of CAD system for kidney images that compatible to be used in portable and conventional ultrasound. The result of technical properties of ultrasound using phantom will be used in investigating kidney images. Kidney images then encounter pre-processed by suitable filtering, segmentation, and classification process. Preliminary result concludes that portable ultrasound images do not obey Rayleigh distribution compare with conventional ultrasound.
