Connection Admission Control in ATM Networks

Ulrich Killat · 1996

As already stated several times in this section, an ATM network works according to the paradigm of connection orientation. This implies that before any communication between the interested parties can start, a connection has to be established. To this end the initiator of the connection talks to the network control which has to check whether network resources are available to support the new call. If this happens to be the case, the call will be accepted; otherwise the network control is said to block the call. The communication with the network control is formalised in a signalling protocol. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
