Data Logging and Real-time Processing Systems for Wind Power Applications

Phil Edwards · 1984

A review is presented of data logging and real-time data processing techniques used in wind power applications in Australia and New Zealand. Two areas of applications are considered: (a) Wind Energy Resource Investigation and Site Selection. (b) Monitoring of Wind Energy Conversion System Operation. System design and implementation is discussed with particular reference to the use of microcomputers and microprocessor based systems for data acquisition, processing, storage and display. The presentation addresses the special features of such systems including: sensor and transducer characteristics; signal conditioning; sampling considerations; data storage, processing, retrieval and display; field operation.
