A Study on Automatic Dependent Surveillance System

Two kinds of data link systems for Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) are proposed. One of them is designed to be used to the ADS system for an airport surface surveillance. Another is designed not only for an airport surface surveillance but also for world wide global ADS system. In the proposed global ADS system, there are no use of satellite communication system since the ADS reports transmitted by aircraft are relayed by the aircraft cruising ahead. In this paper the specifications of ADS transponder needed for the proposed ADS data link system and the protocol for realizing ADS data relay among aircraft are described.
