The Human-Computer Interface for Information Retrieval.
Debora Shaw · Annual Review of Information Science and Technology · 1991
The chapter begins with a review of advances in general interface design. Then this review focuses on the basic interface models which should be of interest and value to designers of information retrieval systems. In this review, the human-computer interface is defined as what the user sees, hears, and touches in interacting with a computer system -i.e., primarily the VDT (video display terminal) screen and various input devices . Topics are related to user navigation, interaction styles, and screen design. Topics on user interface engineering, such as general guidelines, help facilities, and interface evaluation, are also covered
