Applications of Near MDS Codes in Cryptography

MDS codes are widely used in constructive coding theory. However some examples indicate that using non-MDS codes (but with parameters close to those of MDS codes) one can obtain better results. The application of the family of Near-MDS codes seems to be promising in various cryptographic problems.
