With the rapid increase in the demand for Internet of Things services, securing the information content delivered among various entities involved in the IoT architecture has become an important issue. Accordingly, the problem of Internet of Things security has become more and more challenging day-by-day. As IoT systems are very diverse in their requirements and implementations, here specifically focus on smart home systems. A smart home consists of diverse smart devices interconnected through Internet and therefore these low capacity devices and wireless networks, needs an adequate level of security when all working together. This paper presents a multi-level authentication system for smart home network and this authentication scheme is to make the network more secure. The proposed scheme provides various security properties which include data confidentiality and integrity, mutual authentication, forward security and privacy preservation and also provides prevention of various popular IoT attacks. In addition, when compared with other alternative schemes from the literature the proposed scheme acquires both computation and communication efficiency.
