Size of digital image depends upon the resolution of imaging sensors. As resolution increases, image size also increases. Transmission and storage of such images cost huge amount. Thus, image compression plays crucial role in the field of multimedia and communications. Blocking Artifact is a type of distortion in images generally caused by the lossy image compression. In this paper, two novel filtering algorithms has been implemented and analyzed. Based on the computation of SSIM and PSNR values of reconstructed image after the application of bilateral and block wiener filer, this paper concludes that bilateral filter gives better result than wiener filter for reduction of blocking artifact.
